The Guardian 12 " x 30"

This is the first in a new series of more minimalistic paintings, a little more contemporary version of my traditional paintings. While all the detail is there, I've simplified the design, so there are larger areas of rich color such as the walls and the floor, and less small items of delicate detail.

New painting: "Reflections"

This is my latest piece working with a more contemporary, minimalist concept.  The top portion of the painting is devoted to the most detail. As you can see, the focal point which is the exterior subject is mostly completed, creating the sense of depth I enjoy and enticing the viewer into the painting. Areas around the walls have been masked off to control the flow of color in those sections. About twenty layers of paint have been applied to the walls, enriching the color, and allowing the blended effect necessary to create the illusion of light reflecting off the floor and lighting up the bottom portion of the walls.

Now the painting is complete.  As you can see, even though the impression of detail in the foreground is consistant with the background and gives the painting a finished feeling, this section is not as intricate as it's midground and exterior  counterparts.  The goal is to minimize the detail, drawing the viewer into the area I've chosen to emphasize with intricate workmanship and allowing the rest of the painting to complement the detailed focal point.
